Standby Generators
Standby generators are automatic generators that kick in when the power goes out. Standby generators have an automatic transfer switch, which senses when the power goes out within seconds of an outage. It prompts the generator to start, and then will automatically switch the electrical load to the generator. There are many different types of generators on the market, and they can carry and withstand different loads. One regular standby generator would be sufficient for a house, but schools, hospitals, apartment buildings, government buildings probably need more than one generator to take on the electric load. Especially since, in some cases, electricity is absolutely critical for survival. It wouldn’t do any good for a sudden power outage to take out the lights and all the machines in a hospital, and that’s why these types of generators are so absolutely critical.
A power outage can happen anywhere, anytime, for a variety of reasons. It could be human error, weather related, an accident, or something else entirely. While most people are comfortable in believing that the vast majority of the time there won’t be a problem, some buildings cannot afford to have that sort of complacency. A hospital needs to have standby generators, especially if some sort of accident or emergency happens. A storm that is powerful enough to wipe out electricity might be powerful enough to cause injuries. And if the storm is powerful enough to wipe out electricity for several days, then the likelihood of injury only goes up.
